Mohammad Eslami made the remarks speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission where he presented a report of a recent visit to Tehran by the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
He noted that what is important is that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and has to proceed in a transparent manner based on the law and a strategic act approved by the Parliament so as not to be accused of secrecy in the world.
Under the terms of the nuclear deal, the Western countries were expected to help Iran develop its nuclear program, but this commitment was not fulfilled, the official said, adding that whatever Iran has achieved in the area of nuclear technology was based on domestic research and development, and no one can stop it.
He said that Iran has plans to increase the country’s electricity generation from nuclear energy to 8,000 MW so that the people will feel the outcome of the nuclear program.
He also underlined the need for using nuclear energy in the health, environmental, and agricultural sectors.
The recent terrorist operations have damaged the cameras installed in the Iranian facilities which led to two tough reports against Iran, Eslami said, adding that the visit to Tehran by the IAEA chief was aimed to clarify in this regard.
